A Letter
History
This song was recorded for The Brobecks album Happiest Nuclear Winter. It’s not ever referenced specifically in the recording log, possibly due to it being recorded separately from the rest of the album, being made entirely in modplug while the rest of the album was done in a 16-Track recorder.
The lyrics to this song are excerpts from a letter Dallon Weekes received from an ex. The reason it was made into a song according to interviews from around the time: “Spite”
2 early versions of this track have surfaced over the years, the first being Globular, a spoken word B-Side shared by Matt Glass featuring him reading out of encyclopedia. The second is much closer to the final version featuring the same vocals with the instrumental and mixing in an earlier state.
Lyrics
I really don’t know why I’m writing this letter
I just think it must be easier than talking about it
You know whenever I think to myself, “What if this doesn’t work out?”
The first person I think of is you
I just hope you never think I only had you around to pass the time, please don’t think that
It’s, it’s hard to stay focused when I’m with you all the time
and when I’m not, I’m thinking about you
I can’t get close to people very easily unless I know it’s worth it
but I felt close to you instantly
I’ve only done that with one other person, I wish you all the happiness in the world
